Indian Government bans 47 more Chinese Apps after TikTok and 58 others were banned in June 1


The Indian government has banned an additional 47 Chinese apps.  The move comes after 59 Chinese apps had been banned in June by the government to “protect national interest and security.”  The earlier list included the hugely popular TikTok, CamScanner, SHAREit, and UC Browser, among others. That ban was announced under the provisions of Section 69A of the Information Technology Act.

With this move, over 100 Chinese Apps are likely to be banned by by use in India.

A Tweet by Government’s official Broadcaster channel, Doordarshan (DD) says

It is believed that some top gaming Chinese apps including PUBG Mobile would be a part of the new list of banned apps. However, the latest list 47 apps banned is yet to be announced.

China and India have been odds over the border skirmish in early June when nearly 20 Indian soldiers died in a gruesome hand-to-hand combat in the inhospitable, high-altitude terrain in Galwan Valley, the “Chinese occupied” part of Laddakh. 

While Indians await the government’s promised military retaliation for the killing of 20 of its soldiers in Laddakh, there has been grassroots movement to boycott Chinese goods, services and investments.
